Signify launches Interact IoT platform

Signify has just announced the launch of their IoT platform called Interact. In a press conference held at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur yesterday, Signify demoed the IoT solution to business owners and government officials. Interact isn’t exactly new as it has already been implemented in parts of Malaysia and around the world. Instead, the press event marks it’s official presence in Malaysia.

During the event, members of the media as well as VIP guest InvestKL Chief Executive Officer Datuk Zainal Amanshah were given a tour of Signify’s Interact product and services showcase, which included several real world application and live demonstrations of Interact connected lighting in industrial, retail, city and commercial environments. Signify also highlighted several solutions to local government officials on how the Interact platform could improve and manage outdoor environments and road lightings.

“The recent launch of the Industry4WRD National Policy by Malaysia Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad highlights the country’s commitment towards the digital transformation of its manufacturing sector and related services,” said Alok Ghose, Chief Executive Officer for Signify in ASEAN. “Signify is ready to assist Malaysian customers in embracing the future of higher production efficiency, stronger digital talent pools, and greater cost savings through Interact IoT platform.”

Who is Signify?

Signify is formerly known as Philips Lighting. Philips lighting has been in Malaysia since the 1970s and was renamed to Signify in May 2018.

What is Interact?

Interact is an IoT platform from Signify that’s focused on connected lighting. It relies on various sensors and inputs to trigger an action depending on the environment’s condition. These sensors include: Light sensor, Motion sensor, Sound Sensor, Video Sensor and Environmental sensor.

How will this be applied in real life?

Interact Hospitality (Swissotel The Stamford, Singapore)
One area that will greatly benefit from Signify’s IoT Platform is the hotel industry. And Signify has termed this offering, Interact Hospitality. For example, once guests check-in into the hotel, their room’s air conditioning will turn on and as soon as they enter, sensors in the room will trigger the lights to turn on. Guests can also set their preferred mood lighting colour and at a press of a button, the mood lighting is activated. When guests turn off the master lights, a Do-Not-Disturb indication will be notified to the back-end hotel staff informing them to not disturb the guests in any way.

Lights turn on when guests enter the room.
Set the mood lighting to the colour of your choice.

Interact Retail (EDEKA Gaimersheim, Germany)
Another example is in the area of retail. And the EDEKA grocery flagship store in Gaimersheim, Germany has managed to realise its vision for their store with Interact Retail. Taken from the Interact website: “An EDEKA-blue strip of light on the façade greets customers from afar, joined by a welcoming glow that shines through the glass façade. In the entrance area, Philips Luminous textile with dynamic content helps create a relaxed atmosphere and gets customers in the mood for shopping. Efficient outdoor LED lights provide excellent visibility in the parking area and help guide customers into the store.”

Bright and spacious.
What sectors is Interact in?

The Interact platform has many applications ranging from various sectors. Interact Hospitality for hotel lobbies, restaurants, and guest rooms. Interact City for public space lighting. Interact Sports for stadiums. Interact Retail for large retail and food stores. Interact Office for offices and commercial buildings. Interact Industry for warehouses, logistic centres and factories.

Gaining Traction

The official launch of the Interact IoT platform in Malaysia is very encouraging and in line with one of the pillars of Industry 4.0 which is Internet of Things (IoT). Previously we have seen Philips partner with Mah Sing to provide their Hue bulbs as an option when purchasing the property. So the fact that they’re now doing it on a bigger scale on their own platform really signals their intent on being the leader in providing an integrated connected lighting solution.
