The only product that didn’t get the limelight during the Pixel 3 event earlier this month, was the Chromecast. Not that it needed to, but it’s worth mentioning that Google has updated the design of the Chromecast for 2018 albeit slightly.
Google Chromecast 2018
The updated design in 2018 has a much cleaner look with only a letter ‘G’ on it, where previously you had a chrome browser inspired engraving.
In terms of size, it’s only slightly smaller with a difference of 0.2 mm for both the width and height. The only other difference is the ability for the updated model to stream in 1080p at 60fps. The previous model could only do 1080p.
Price and Availability
The Chromecast 2018 comes in Chalk (white) and Charcoal (black) and is priced at USD$35 (RM145). It’s not yet available in the Google Store Malaysia BUT is available in the Google Store Singapore. So if you really want one, the best option is make a trip across the causeway or get a friend/relative to grab it for you.
