Huawei to boost Sarawak’s digital economy

Hot on the heels of Huawei’s partnership with I-Bhd it was reported by Borneo Post that the Sarawak government is working together with Huawei to develop the state’s digital economy.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and Huawei Technologies vice president of Public Affairs and Communications Edward Zhou.

Speaking at the Sarawak International ICT Infrastructure and Digital Economy Conference, the Chief Minister shared his vision for Sarawak. “We hope to leverage on Huawei’s global leading ICT technology to jointly collaborate on areas among other, smart city planning and safe city solution to strengthen public safety, traffic management control, communicity social network and other key initiatives such as smart tourist, smart building, smart home, smart education, e-commerce, and others to promote local economic development.”

CEO of Huawei Malaysia, Abraham Liu is proud to be collaborating with the Sarawak goverment. “It is our great honour to be selected by Sarawak government to provide the latest ICT technologies and contribute to the Sarawak digital economy blueprint to help its people prepare for the advent of the IoT era..”

As evidenced by Malaysia’s 2017 budget, the partnership between Sarawak and Huawei are in line with the Malaysian goverment’s initiative to boost the digital economy. Be sure to see further developments this year in the digital economy and IoT space.
